This microstructure resembles that of the non-substituted Heusler Fe2VAl sintered alloy [9]. Therefore, these element substitutions apparently have little effect on the microstructure. These results of XRD and SEM observation indicate that the single phase of the Heusler alloy having the same order of microstructure was obtained. 34 5th FORUM ON NEW MATERIALS PART C 220 Log Intensity (arb. units)_ 200 111 422 400 222 311 a) 420 331 b) c) d) 20 30 40 50 60 70 80 90 2θ (deg) Fig. 00. a) b) 2 μm 2 μm Fig.

Furthermore, we have demonstrated the additional Si-substitution is effective for the enhancement of the electrical properties in the n-type Heusler alloy [10]. In this study, to obtain a p-type Heusler alloy, Ti substitution for the V site was examined. The effect of the additional substitution on thermoelectric properties was investigated. Pietro VINCENZINI, Kunihito KOUMOTO, Nicola ROMEO and Mark MEHOS 33 Experimental Because of the lower melting point and the lower vapor pressure of Sb compared to the constituent elements of Fe2VAl alloy, it is difficult to synthesize the Sb-doped Fe2VAl alloy stably through a melting process, such as the arc-melting method.

In Fig. 1 we show the effect of cobalt content x on the lattice parameters, a, cMn, cSi and , for the solid solution. The dotted line in each panel represents the data of the (Mn1-xFex)Si solid solution, Fig. 2 Effect of cobalt content, x, on the lattice parameters of in which Fe atoms can be (Mn1-xCox)Si solid solution. 35 [4]. The Co-substituted samples show essentially similar behavior to the Fe-substituted samples; a- and cMn- lengths and value decrease with x, while cSi- length increases.
